Weekly Meeting Importance Being Reduced - Your Thoughts?
by JWTom ini am pimo, but now have 40+ years of being a jw as i was raised in a 3rd generation family of witnesses and continue to fake my way through things - fading as i can.. for the vast majority of my time as a jw, the meetings were the central focus for all jws to get teaching, association, information and so on.
nothing was more important than being at the meetings!
over the last 20 years starting with the elimination of the weekly book study in homes and continuing down to today - my opinion is that the value/purpose of the weekly meetings continues to be diluted or minimized.

Regarding when the Group Study Arrangement stopped -
I noticed that it coincided with instructions to not use 1st names, even within the Group Study. They were stamping on natural human relations. To not use someone's name is cold and distancing. The apostles did not refer to each other as 'Brother + surname'. The term brothers is used as a collective term in the Bible and maybe as an affectionate term but not as a general replacement for a name.
Also around this time, they stopped speakers bringing the love from the congregation they came from or had visited. The love was only to come from top down. It wasn't to go sideways.
All this reminded me of Gestalt Humanistic Psychology - teaching people to live without love, within a cold set of relationships based on contract and money (ie the corporate environment).
Given it is pretty clear they are nothing but a media and property developing company posing as both a charity and religion, the practice of Gestalt Humanistic Psychology instead of Jesus' teachings seems to be their direction of travel.

The Fundamental difference between Islam and Christianity
by ILoveTTATT2 inever since i came out of the witnesses, i've become very political.. i've heard lots of arguments back and forth for many things.. in the u.s. there is the argument that it is "racist" to want to deny entry to muslims.
while there is freedom of religion, there is also the very valid concern of maintaining democracy and a justice system that is based on modern values.we as exjw's constantly quote the pew center for statistics on jw's such as: they are last place in the us for members of a religion that go to university, and second-last for poverty levels of members of a religion.
we accept those statistics and mention them as proof of how damaging the jw's are.now, let's use the same center for some very scary statistics on islam:http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2016/07/22/muslims-and-islam-key-findings-in-the-u-s-and-around-the-world/.

On the matter of saying other people should be eradcated and claiming connection to Jesus Christ and his Father, the God of Abraham.
(Matthew 5:43-48) . . .“YOU heard that it was said, ‘You must love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 However, I say to YOU: Continue to love YOUR enemies and to pray for those persecuting YOU; 45 that YOU may prove yourselves sons of YOUR Father who is in the heavens, since he makes his sun rise upon wicked people and good and makes it rain upon righteous people and unrighteous. 46 For if YOU love those loving YOU, what reward do YOU have? Are not also the tax collectors doing the same thing? 47 And if YOU greet YOUR brothers only, what extraordinary thing are YOU doing? Are not also the people of the nations doing the same thing? 48 YOU must accordingly be perfect, as YOUR heavenly Father is perfect.
Also
(Matthew 5:38-42) . . .YOU heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye and tooth for tooth.’ 39 However, I say to YOU: Do not resist him that is wicked; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other also to him. 40 And if a person wants to go to court with you and get possession of your inner garment, let your outer garment also go to him; 41 and if someone under authority impresses you into service for a mile, go with him two miles. 42 Give to the one asking you, and do not turn away from one that wants to borrow from you [without interest].

TD - Spinoza too is in there. But I was just making a quick point as easily as I knew how without going into lots of detail which people are better of doing themselves if the subject is of interest to them. But if it is not of interest or they do not agree, fair enough.

TD if Kant etc is your thing you are in the same area. I just didn't bother to cover that in the short few lines I wrote.
Crofty its a steer, an overview. If you perceive it as random dots, ok I understand why you might say that. I appreciate that you have your own view and I respect that our views are different.

TD even what you are calling the Englightenment has its roots in something older than Madam de Pompadour and her associated philosphers. It comes from belief in the Golden Age and ideas about Utopia.
But I appreciate you hold a different view. So if you want to investigate further, its up to you. If not. Ok.

TD - Enlightenment started by Voltaire (plus some). Voltaire influence Fredrick the Great, Hilter looked up to Fredrick the Great. Voltaire as a philosopher was supported by the purse of Madam de Pompadour, mistress to the French King. She supported the philosphers because the French Queen was supported by the clergy.
It was all about looking to the doctrines of the East rather than to the doctrines in the Bible and the accounts of the patriarchs. The Orient had no tradition of the patriarchs. The problem as far as Voltaire was concerned was that all knowledge of the patriachs inevitably lead to Jesus Christ, therefore Jewish history should not be taught.
This is the root of anti-semitism. The liberty spoken of is really libertinism. The progress is what Joseph Rutherford heralded as the sign of Christ's presence, like electricity and cream separators. You find a lot of this spoken about by Emerson, Colridge, Wordsworth, Shelley, Byron. The dawning of golden age when things get back to how it was in Athena's day (ie Greek gods - before the flood - Atlantis).
All the false teachings of the WT have their roots in theo sufism, sufism is a mystic form of Islam.

Sufism is a form of Islam that is non-religious. Remind you of anything?
Not being locked into one thing is why Sufism was never about a religion, adds Rabia. “Sufism was never a religion. Islam is a religion.”
